I am an American and I Will not be Lied To

Whoever corrects a scoffer gets himself abuse, and he who reproves a wicked man incurs injury. Do not reprove a scoffer, or he will hate you; reprove a wise man, and he will love you. Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight. For by me your days will be multiplied, and years will be added to your life. If you are wise, you are wise for yourself; if you scoff, you alone will bear it. Proverbs 9:7–12 (ESV)

Our world has become riddled with lies, and the only beacon of truth comes from those willing to stand up to the lies. The unpopular stance will be attacked from all sides, and those who take unpopular positions are called conspiracy theorists for denying “The Science” or not trusting “The Experts” who advise our government on policy and health and expect mainstream journalism to fall in line with their pronouncements.

Knowing the truth in this day and age is like having a weight to bear. It is like knowing God and walking with him when everyone else denies that he is there. The perfect analogy is Plato’s Allegory of the Cave. Life is nothing but shadows cast on the back wall of the cave, and we as a society are too stubborn or ignorant to turn around. Those of us who do find a way to turn around, walk out of the cave, and see the wonder of where the light is coming from are only ridiculed as blasphemous or just plain crazy when we return to the cave and try to tell the others to turn around as well. We live in a time of war over information and fight with the swords of knowledge, wisdom, and continued education. They say the pen is mightier than the sword. Let us put that to the test.

Growing up, I was never really political until I had children. Before that point in time, I feigned being a centrist. I really did not care either way because it did not affect me. Admittedly, growing up in a conservative household did come with a bit of culture shock when I started to discover that not everyone thinks the same. My innocence told me that everyone is American, so everyone must share the same American values. Even when I was in college, I was still finding myself surprised when I learned a friend was a Liberal and thought in such a strange way compared to my own beliefs. I learned to just ignore this, and for most of my life the topics were avoidable. Then I had my first child, and everything came at me all at once. Initially, what pulled me in was a story I heard about a social worker being interviewed by a news personality who claimed that parents needed to ask their baby’s permission before changing its diaper. I just could not believe that people like this existed. I found myself diving into the political culture online, but I was not ready for that toxicity.

A whole whirlwind of strange things was happening about that time. Before I knew it, the cultural norm was becoming a desensitized society to violence and deviant sexuality. Men going into women’s bathrooms and the “Me Too” movement of pushing ideas like Snow White being inappropriate because it encourages the behavior of a boy kissing a girl without asking permission first. The world was falling apart around me, and being a father changed my priorities in life. Yes, I am a conservative now, but I have always registered as an independent. There are things about both main parties with which I take issue, but the Democrat party appears to have lost their way entirely. Old-school Liberals are now outnumbered by Leftists who have changed what the party once represented.

Until I was a father, I also never really followed the news unless it was for a State of the Union Address or some other live event. So naturally, I found myself getting information from alternative news sources. For some reason, it felt more straightforward than the Mainstream Media news outlets, but I did not yet know why. Keeping up with the topics from multiple sources quickly showed me whom I could trust and who spoke with an agenda. In fact, I started to realize how much lying was going on in the media and government, not because I was told so by other news sources or because Trump called CNN “fake news,” but because I actually had people, even family, who were on the ground giving me the real story.

At first, it was something like the news declaring that Florida was being torn apart by a hurricane, only to find out from family members in the area that it was just a minor storm and nothing unusual was going on. While not always the case, this did often happen and started to make me wonder what else they might be exaggerating or lying about.

Exaggerations aside, I became very suspicious when Donald Trump came into the picture. A simple example occurred early in his political career. During his first Easter in the White House, he was portrayed by the media as showing up to the lawn where an Easter gathering was taking place with staffers and invitees and their children, waving briefly from the balcony, saying a quick word to Melania, and then going back inside because he could not be bothered to spend any more time with the families there. To the rest of the country, that is what apparently happened. But according to those who were actually there, Trump came down on the lawn and spent two hours having fun with the families. How do I know this? My uncle works in Washington as a lobbyist, and he was one of the families invited to this gathering. In fact, he has photos of his sons with Trump as Trump shook his eldest’s hand, saying, “Such a handsome young man, a handsome young man!” While this was a minor incident in the media lies, it was enough for me to start questioning everything they said after that. And for good reason.

The lies never seem to end. Even as I write this book, the Leftist media gives me more content to write about. Eventually, I decided that I had covered enough to make the points I wanted to in this book. My purpose is to outline the myths created by the Left that are designed to shape their narrative. While there are many myths or lies, I intend to focus on the big ones that define why the Democrat party has gone down a path of destruction. By breaking down the barriers that currently divide Liberals from Conservatives, I then hope to establish a new middle ground on which we can all stand. I then describe in the last chapters of this book what we can all do together as united Americans.

The Democrat party used to have stronger standards that made it once great, even if I did not agree with all their policies. John F. Kennedy was one of my favorite presidents. The trouble is that the Democrat party has shifted to the far left, and the lies from its party leaders have gotten out of control. As I have watched the news and debated with friends on the Left, I felt called to write this book and set a few things straight.

In perspective, the entirety of the political scope has shifted left. Republicans are now considered centrist, otherwise known as Neocons (Neoconservatives or New Republicans), and true Conservatives are now seen by the Left as “Right Wingers’’ because of our steadfast beliefs in Constitutional law and limited government. Neoconservatism started in the 1960s under John F. Kennedy as a label for Democrats who grew tired of the increasingly pacifistic foreign policy of the Democratic Party and the growing counterculture, otherwise known as the growing progressive movement that started under Woodrow Wilson and lead to the political activism of aggressive civil rights and antiwar movements of the 1960’s. The very same movement that caused activists to denounce traditional family values and spit on our troops when they came home from Vietnam. This party split also created The New Left that hyper-focused on feminism, sexual freedom, and racial justice Republicans adopted it under George W. Bush’s and Dick Cheney’s administration during the promotion of American influence in the Middle East.

Knowledge only comes to those that are willing to listen. As King Solomon stated, “Whoever corrects a scoffer gets himself abuse” (Proverbs 9:7 ESV). We all have received this abuse when we try to debate with the other side. Unfortunately, nothing can be done about this. Instead, we must find that “wise man” and preach to him. Only the one with an open heart will accept our words. Others choose not to believe that they are being lied to. We must acknowledge that choice and respond with kindness. Only then may they actually listen.

So, why do Conservatives care so much? Other countries seem to comply so easily. Just look at Australia with their totalitarian mandates revolving around COVID-19. They put people in COVID camps against their will just for testing positive. When people tell me that other countries do great without the Second Amendment, I always remind them that this is why things like those camps exist in their countries. Americans are different because the more the government pushes, the more Americans push back. We are offended every time we hear a lie from the Left. The Leftist Myths in this book are what continue to divide us as a country. In order to get back to the great country we once were, we must put our foot down and say, “I am an American and I will not be lied to.”
